There are two types of T cells: Cytotoxic T cells, which kill organisms like bacteria and viruses that are "inside the cell" and Helper T cells which activate the cytotoxic T cells and B cells.
Mature T and B cells circulate in the bloodstream and can also be found
in secondary locations in the lymph nodes, lymphoid tissue, and spleen.
These locations are where the immune system response begins. Aside from
the T and B cells there are larger lymphocytes that circulate in the
blood but are found mostly in the spleen. These are called NK Cells
which stands for Natural Killer Cells which kill certain tumors and
viruses. The part of the body where NK cells come from is unknown. The
B, T, and NK cells are the essence of the immune system.
